Hi! I'm Hope!

I’ve seen this come up before, and apparently it’s a very hot button issue, so I thought I would address it in this Wednesdays Business series.

Prints verses Digital Images, are you for one, or do you like both?

And what should you offer your clients?

I honestly wish I could tell you there’s a one size, fits all for business, but there is not. We are all different, and have different ideas of how to run our own business, and that is great! It’s what attracts people to our business, and keeps them referring us. Some photographers only offer digital files, and that works great for their business model. Some photographers offer both, and that works great for their business model.

If I am going to be completely honest with you, there are times where I’m hardcore for traditional prints, and there are times I’m hardcore for digital images. All in all, I love a healthy mix of both. Your digital images won’t do you any good just sitting on your computer, and your computer could crash at any moment. If you don’t store your images on a back up hard drive, or USB then they are just gone! Then again, if you encounter a situation in which you lose all your prints, and you didn’t keep them up on a computer or back them up on your hard drive you still have nothing.

For me, nothing could be worse than losing all the images I spent time working on, and all the precious memories associated with that moment frozen in time. It would be heart-breaking.

So, what exactly does each one have to offer you? And most importantly, what are hearing your clients say?

Sometimes we only want to offer products that WE love, but what good does it do us if we are not hearing what our clients want?

Now that you’ve seen some of my pro and con list of digital verses prints, what are you hearing your clients tell you?

Do they want all digital? Do they want just prints? Or do they want both? It’s our job as professionals to give the best possible solution for their needs, while still listening to them. It’s easy to get so lost in your own business world, but never ignore the needs of your clients. They are the heart and soul of your business, and the reason you have a business.

So what is your take on the whole digital vs. prints revolution? Are you all for one, or do you enjoy the benefits of both? Let me know in the comments below, and we can have a discussion.

Stay beautiful my friends!

Love,
